The first illustrated German translation of ''Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'' was released in 1897 under the title of ''Abenteuer und Fahrten des Huckleberry Finn'' (literal translation: Adventures and Journeys of Huckleberry Finn). It contained 69 black-and-white illustrations by [[HF/SchroedterBio|Hans Schrödter]] amongst which we can find twelve grayscale images and thirtyfive drawings of characters, landscapes, and other scenes from the novel. A plethora of [[HF/Schroedter/Ornaments|ornamental letters and tailpieces]]  decorates the 351 pages of the book. The cover image shown  on the left was used for a 1898 illustrated edition. Other editions published by R. Lutz came with a [[HF/Schroedter/Red|red]] or a [[HF/Schroedter/Green|green]] cover but did not contain illustrations besides the cover illustration.
