The first illustrated German translation of ''Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'' was released in 1897 under the title of ''Abenteuer und Fahrten des Huckleberry Finn'' (literal translation: Adventures and Journeys of Huckleberry Finn). The first illustrated German translation of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was released in 1897 under the title of Abenteuer und Fahrten des Huckleberry Finn (literal translation: Adventures and Journeys of Huckleberry Finn). It contained 69 black-and-white illustrations by Hans Schrödter amongst which we can find twelve grayscale images and thirtyfive drawings of characters, landscapes, and other scenes from the novel. A plethora of ornamental letters and tailpieces decorates the 351 pages of the book. The cover image shown on the left was used for a 1898 illustrated edition. Other editions published by R. Lutz came with a green (1892) or a red (1898) cover but did not contain illustrations besides the cover illustration.
