Schrödter's Illustrations of Huckleberry Finn
The first German translation of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was released in 1897 under the title of Abenteuer und Fahrten des Huckleberry Finn (literal translation: Adventures and Journeys of Huckleberry Finn). It contained 69 black-and-white illustrations by Hans Schrödter amongst which we can find twelve grayscale images and thirtyfive drawings of characters, landscapes, and other scenes from the novel. A plethora of ornamental letters and tailpieces decorates the 351 pages of the book. The illustrations can be filtered by chapter or by character. At the bottom of this page, a swipeable gallery and a grid provide an overview of the illustrations made by H. Schrödter. Decorative letters and tailpieces that do not feature any other elements were excluded but can be found on their own page (Ornaments).
